Oct 31: Our hike ends: bus ride to Albi

Our original plan had been to complete our walk in Albi, so though we cut a few days out of the last week, we still wanted to finish in Albi, a 30 minute bus ride from Cordes to Albi.

It was strange to wake up to a day that was neither a hiking day, nor a rest day between hiking days. This was it. Of course excited to eventually reunite with our clean (non-hiking) clothes stored in Lyon for a month - though this was still 3 days away - we still felt funny, knowing that the simplicity and tranquillity that accompanied us on our daily hikes would soon be no more.

We'll see the rest of our luggage soon....

Leaving deserted Cordes on a Saturday morning.

A last look back up at Cordes

On the road to Albi (by bus...)

Albi is a beautiful red-hued town on the banks of the Tarn river, known for its imposing cathedral (begun in 1287) as well as a museum dedicated to Toulouse-Lautrec (born in Albi in 1864). It is small enough as a great transition between rural France and our foray back into civilization in Lyon.

Albi's cathedral. Still walking...but not hiking.
